As our northern friends deal with the brutal wintery effects of the polar vortex, we are reminded of how wonderful our mild Florida winters are. Outdoor living is not just a seasonal event in the sunshine state. It is available for us to enjoy year-round. With this in mind, we decided to launch an “Outdoor Living” section and turned to our Design Pro, Suzan Decker Ross, for advice and recommendations.

The Decker Ross Interiors design team is not only adept at creating beautiful interior spaces, but their expertise also encompasses “imagining” wonderful outdoor spaces as well.

Whether it’s a pool patio area, outdoor kitchen in a gazebo, or unusual landscaping concepts, Decker Ross Interiors has found some experienced professionals who bring talent and expertise to creating unique outdoor living spaces specifically tailored to suit their clients’ taste and lifestyle.

seasonal use– like various fireplace/firepits for fall and winter, or a variety of fountains to be utilized in the spring or summer. One of Decker Ross’ Outdoor Living providers, Shelly Meadows, of Urban Concepts, offers some beautiful, unusual options for both fire and water features.

“We’re also excited to introduce one of our favorite contractors, Don Wetherington of Southern Point Construction, to Destination Tampa Bay readers,” Suzan said in discussing Outdoor Living opportunities. “Don and his brother, David, along with Don’s sons, Casey and Colton, are extremely creative and can literally build almost anything a client could ask for.”

Southern Point Construction teamed up with Dan Ebert of Premier Outdoor Living and Design, and Freestyle Pools to build the fantastic waterfront pool, patio and kitchen/pavilion area featured in the photograph included with this article.

Southern Point Construction completely gutted and rebuilt this beautiful Island Estates home, shown above. The Wetherington family team literally “raised the roof,” creating a new roof line. They also relocated interior walls, built a lovely new kitchen and added this gorgeous outdoor pavilion, which exponentially expanded the square footage of this home.

The new roof on the house, as well as on the pavilion, is a standing seam metal roof. They finished the ceiling of the pavilion with a tongue and groove cypress. Coquina shell was utilized on the columns, retaining wall on the pool deck, and other exterior walls, adding dimension and a “beachy” design element. Travertine flooring, a gas burning fireplace, and gorgeous outdoor kitchen by Premier, complete the structural elements of the pavilion to provide a gracious outdoor living and entertainment area year-round.

Don Wetherington also oversaw the installation of the lush tropical landscaping and Premier Outdoor Living and Design created a gorgeous pool area, adding to the overall outdoor atmosphere. This team of professionals created a truly spectacular waterfront retreat for these homeowners!

Don Wetherington says his Southern Point team enjoys working on projects with Premier Outdoor, who installed the kitchen, because Dan Ebert and his partner Lewis Thibeault are so innovative and do a great job. They create memorable designs by assessing their client’s current outdoor environment, desires in an outdoor kitchen or other feature, along with their entertaining needs.

Functional decisions, such as a side burner or lighting elements highlighting surrounding trees, are considered along with space and budget. Premier specializes in creating sights, smells and sounds that provide an unforgettable experience for their clients’ families and guests. Whether it’s a sleek, industrial look you desire, or a cozy, more traditional fireplace for roasting marshmallows, you will not be disappointed.
